I woke before the maintenance alarm on 2026-08-12 with that familiar pre-patch restlessness. Version 7.0, Everwinter Without Mercy, felt less like a routine update and more like a snow globe being cracked open over Teyvat, spilling five frozen regions onto my map. As an ordinary player who had been saving Primogems for months, I wasn't just logging in for compensation; I was preparing to step into Snezhnaya, resonate with the Cryo Traveler, and learn the strange new grammar of Stellar Swirl.

🕓 Maintenance and compensation
The servers went down at 06:00 (UTC+8) on 2026-08-12 and were expected to need about five hours. Travelers at Adventure Rank 5 or above could claim 600 Primogems in total: 300 for maintenance and 300 for issue fixes. I made a note of the issue-fix deadline on 2026-08-15 06:00 (UTC+8) and reminded myself that maintenance compensation had to be collected before the end of Version 7.0. Rewards arrive through in-game mail within five hours after maintenance ends, and the mail expires after 30 days.
🗺️ Snezhnaya opens wide
The patch added five explorable areas: Volkodlak Tundra, White Birch Snowgrave, Everfrozen Earth, Flamefeather Valley, and Fellfrost Peak. If you completed Archon Quest Prologue: Act III — Song of the Dragon and Freedom, a Teleport Waypoint southwest of Volkodlak Tundra unlocks automatically after the update. That small convenience felt like being handed a rope before stepping onto a frozen lake.
Snezhnaya also introduced the Meeting Points system. By spending Cryo Sigils, I could construct Tidesong Cavern, Huntsman's Cabin, and The Korolevskiy Theater, then raise their levels for supplies. The patch notes also listed Daily Commissions, expeditions, new fishing points, and the Snezhnaya Fishing Association. The whole system reminded me of planting mechanical flowers in permafrost, each one blooming into resources over time. New systems like the Eye of Graeae, third-person shooter combat, and the Snezhnaya Adventure Journal joined the package, though I planned to explore them slowly.
❄️ The new faces of 7.0
| Character | Rarity and kit | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Odette | 5-star Cryo Sword | Off-field Stellar Glimmer DMG, Cryo application, reaction support |
| Cryo Traveler | 5-star Cryo | Off-field/quick-swap triggers; on-field DPS in Radiance: Stellar-Conduct |
| Alyosha | 4-star Electro Polearm | Party healing and continuous Electro DMG |
Odette is built around the new Stellar Glimmer reactions. She provides off-field Stellar Glimmer DMG and consistent Cryo application while boosting the party's Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl damage. Her kit is the quiet engine beneath a team, like cold water threading through a millstone—constant, unglamorous, and eventually unstoppable.
The Cryo Traveler can trigger Stellar Glimmer reactions from off-field or in quick-swap rotations. In the Radiance: Stellar-Conduct state, the Traveler can also work as an on-field DPS. That flexibility matters for someone like me who doesn't own every limited character. Alyosha is a 4-star Electro Polearm support who heals while dealing continuous Electro DMG, which makes him a practical comfort pick for exploration and reaction teams.
🌪️ Stellar Swirl and my team plan
Version 7.0 added the Stellar Swirl reaction, triggered by Anemo and Cryo. I started thinking of my team slots less as characters and more as a circuit of cold air and static waiting for a spark. The event-exclusive 5-star Sword Whitelake Frostfeather is tied to the Event Wish, and while exact banner phases were not stated, Odette's off-field application looked more future-proof than building a standard DPS. I decided to wait for live showcases before spending.

As the pre-install bar filled on my PC, I felt less like I was downloading a patch and more like I was unrolling a map made of frost. Snezhnaya was no longer a rumor. It was right there, waiting beyond the next login.
