I opened the Version 6.5 banner calendar like it was a letter from an old friend, and the first thing I felt was my Primogem wallet start sweating. Nine different 5-Star characters across the update, a brand-new Mondstadt map expansion, and a Fontaine Chronicled Banner all staring back at me... Yeah, this was going to be one of those patches.

As a fairly ordinary player who still gets excited about opening a chest with two Primogems inside, I usually judge a patch by one simple question: can I actually afford the thing I want? Version 6.5 does not make that easy. The update runs from April 8, 2026, to May 20, 2026, so there is time to save, explore, and pretend I am not checking the banner timer every morning. Mondstadt is finally opening its arms to Dornman Port, and the Temple of Space is waiting with extra exploration rewards. Meanwhile, the Flagship Event in Nod-Krai pulls characters from other nations into a trade expo, which sounds like the most polite kind of chaos. I can already imagine my party lineup arguing over who gets to stand near the snacks.

The first half belongs to Linnea, the new 5-Star Geo Bow, and Chasca. Linnea feels like Lunar-Crystallize's answer to Lauma, which is a sentence I never expected to type, but here we are. If I had Navia or Zibai sitting in my roster, I would probably be very tempted. Chasca, on the other hand, remains one of Natlan's most flexible hypercarries, so the first banner is basically a test of whether I trust my Geo dreams or my flying-gun instincts. I’m not gonna lie, both options are dangerous for my savings.

The second half is where the real trap opens. Lauma and Nefer arrive together, and they take Lunar-Bloom and catapult it to the top of the current meta. If I had neither of them, this would be the moment to seriously consider investing. They are not just strong; they are the kind of duo that makes a whole reaction feel like it finally has its act together. The second half also debuts the Fontaine Chronicled Banner, featuring Navia, Clorinde, Emilie, Lyney, and Sigewinne. Signature weapons like Verdict, Absolution, and The First Great Magic are available too, and those are the sort of universal options that make weapon banner enthusiasts start whispering sweet nothings at their screens.

Okay, deep breath. Here is how the schedule looks in my notebook:

Phase Event Banners Chronicled Banner My gut check
First half Linnea + Chasca None Geo dreamers, this is your stop
Second half Lauma + Nefer Fontaine: Navia, Clorinde, Emilie, Lyney, Sigewinne Lunar-Bloom newcomers vs. Fontaine collectors

One name is missing from the Fontaine Chronicled Banner, and the community has definitely noticed: Wriothesley. He is neither too recent like Escoffier nor as universally meta-friendly as Neuvillette, Furina, or Arlecchino, so his absence feels like a deliberate little wink from HoYoverse. The most likely explanation is that he is being saved for a separate rerun, possibly in Version 6.7. With Sandrone rumored to be a Superconduct character making her playable debut around then, Cryo might be preparing for another revival beyond Freeze. I am not saying I have already started farming for a future Cryo comeback... but I am also not saying I haven't.

The 5-Star waiting list also makes me side-eye the next Chronicled Banner. A Liyue version feels inevitable, especially with Hu Tao, Ganyu, Tartaglia, Xiao, and Baizhu all overdue for reruns. Some of them have been off banners for well over a year, and my friends who main those characters have been refreshing leak pages like they are waiting for a package. When that Liyue banner finally lands, it is going to hurt. Beautifully, expensively hurt.

For me, Version 6.5 comes down to two paths. If I already had a Geo hypercarry like Navia or Zibai, Linnea would be the obvious pull. Since I do not have a Lunar Reaction hypercarry at all, Lauma and Nefer feel like the smarter investment. The patch gives us enough time to explore Dornman Port, poke around the Temple of Space, and stock up before the second half arrives. Version 6.6 will apparently bring the focus back to the Hexerei with Nicole and Lohen, so this is my last calm breath before the next storm.

So yes, nine 5-Stars, one map expansion, and one trade expo full of familiar faces. My Primogems are already forming a tiny queue and looking at me with disappointment. I will probably still pull anyway. Such is the life of an ordinary player in Teyvat.
